Last First Pitch at Shea Stadium
The final season at Shea Stadium got underway on a chilly Tuesday afternoon with Oliver Perez of the Mets throwing a first pitch strike to the Phillies' Jimmy Rollins. In this panorama you can actually see that pitch streaking into Brian Schneider's mitt! And thanks to this poster's perfect clarity no detail went unnoticed from the stadium's 45th and final Opening Day. You can read the ads on the walls and stats on the scoreboards, see the businessmen scurrying to their front row seats, and observe the players and umpires at attention in the field. But the highlight of this vivid panorama is what looms in the background, where Citi Field has risen in what was once a parking lot. The Mets can only hope to enjoy as much success in their new home as they did in their first Queens ballpark, where the team won twice as many home openers as they lost, their 30-15 record on those occasions a true testament to the home field advantage they enjoyed for the four and a half decades of Shea Stadium's existence.

Subway Series at Shea Stadium
Out of all the interleague battles that take place, the Subway Series is the fiercest. Twice a year since 1997 the Mets and Yankees have played a three game series to determine New York supremacy and this panoramic poster captures the excitement of one of those games, along with an amazing purple sunset. Taken on June 26, 1998 before a packed house at Shea Stadium, fans of both New York teams will be impressed at the clarity of the print. The Mets' Al Leiter is on the mound, about to deliver a pitch to the Yankees' Tim Raines in the 4th inning. New York (Queens) led New York (Bronx) 1-0 at the time (8:47), which is clearly visible on the stadium's scoreboard. Raines would ground out to first in his at-bat, but the Yankees would rally to win, 8-4. How many of the 53,404 fans in attendance that night went home happy is up for debate, but one thing is certain: this image of Shea Stadium is great.
