First Pitch at Miller Park
This panorama was taken on Friday, April 6, 2001, as George Bush and the Cincinnati Reds were on hand to inaugurate Milwaukee's brand new ballpark. Twenty minutes after the President threw out his ceremonial pitch, the Brewers' Jeff D'Amico had the honor of throwing the first pitch that counted, a called strike to Barry Larkin, and that pitch was captured mid-flight in this panoramic poster.
Despite the cold temperature outside - it was 43 degrees when the first pitch was thrown - the sold out crowd of 42,024 were comfy within the confines of Miller Park thanks to its signature retractable roof, shut tight in the first nighttime home opener in Brewers franchise history. In perfect clarity you can see everything Milwaukee's ballpark has to offer, including the retired numbers in the rafters and Bernie Brewer's yellow slide in left field. The home team opened their new playground in style, beating the Reds 5-4. And for the record, the stadium's inaugural sausage race (not pictured) was won by the Bratwurst.
