First Pitch at Jacobs Field
If ever a franchise needed a fresh start, the Cleveland Indians were it. Fortunately for the Tribe and their fans, that fresh start began on April 4, 1994 when Jacobs Field opened in front of 41,459 witnesses. Included in that total was the President of the United States, and Bill Clinton had the honor of throwing out the ballpark's ceremonial first pitch. But the subject of this visually stunning panorama was the pitch thrown by El Presidente, Dennis Martinez, to Seattle's Rich Amaral at precisely 1:21 p.m. That pitch, shown in mid-flight with the time visible on the right field scoreboard, was the first that counted in the history of the ballpark that would come to be affectionately known as The Jake and, more importantly, as the home of a winning team. Besides the beginning of a new era in team history, this poster captures Cleveland's ballpark in its big league debut. Fans have been gushing over it ever since. Thanks to this panoramic poster that love at first sight will never be forgotten.
