Seventh Inning at SkyDome
The world's first fully retractable roof was closed on the evening of September 29, 1992 when the Toronto Blue Jays began their final homestand of what turned out to be their first world championship season. The Boston Red Sox were in town facing the Jays at their engineering marvel of a building, then called SkyDome, when sellout crowds were common and this night was no exception. With 50,418 packed into its blue seats and Toronto in the field and ahead 5-2 in the seventh inning, this vivid panorama of what's now called Rogers Centre was taken at 9:44 pm. The clarity of this poster is so amazing you can actually see the time on the left and right field scoreboards, read all the stats and scores shown on the center field Jumbotron, and scrutinize the now retro logos of each team in the American League as they were displayed on the outfield wall, above which can be seen the Renaissance Hotel and restaurants that the stadium is still noted for. It may not draw four million fans a year like it once did, but this poster serves as a resplendent reminder of SkyDome's glory days (and solid green AstroTurf playing field).
