Game 7 - 1997 World Series
As a baseball stadium its had six different names (through 2009), but just one championship moment. That was in 1997, when 67,204 fans filled every nook and cranny in what was then called Pro Player Stadium to witness the Florida Marlins become the first wild card team to win the World Series, which they did in extra-innings, walk-off fashion over the Cleveland Indians in a thrilling Game 7. This panorama captures the scene 50 minutes before euphoria would strike, with the soon to be world champions in the field in the top of the tenth. Robb Nen is on the mound, Omar Vizquel at the plate, and the tension among the denizens gathered in the stands is palpable. The clarity of this print is so amazing you can even read the time (11:15) on the scoreboards, one of which lists the scores of the first six games of what was truly a Fall Classic.
