Top of the 4th at Coors Field
The green seats that fill Coors Field were filled themselves with fans on a hazy Sunday afternoon in the summer of 2001 when Barry Bonds strode to the plate in the top of the fourth inning against the Rockies' Pedro Astacio. By then Colorado had already built a 6-0 lead. That score, along with the day's line-ups, is visible on the towering scoreboard in left field. In likewise clarity, the perks of the Rockies' ballpark are captured in this visually stunning panorama. Included in the sweeping vista are the evergreen trees beneath the hitter's backdrop, the Rockpile bleachers above it, and the ritzy restaurant that's tucked into the right-center field corner.
As for the duel on the diamond, Astacio has just thrown his 43rd pitch of the game. The ball can be seen in mid-flight, the pitch count on a distant scoreboard. Bonds may have hit a record-breaking 73 home runs by the time the now infamous '01 season was over, but he would finish this afternoon in Denver 0-for-3, the at-bat shown here culminating in a harmless pop-up.
