Each ballpark sketch on the poster measures roughly 3.5" x 2.25" and is an example of high-tech art, as a rough 3D model done in SketchUp is transformed into a finished product using Photoshop. The parks achieve a true sense of realism thanks to the inclusion of the shadows they produce and their immediate surroundings.
This modern-made masterpiece comes courtesy of Jeff Suntala, who has mastered the art of using a computer for illustration and design purposes, which happened after many years of using traditional techniques as he began his career as an illustrator in 1981. That was also the year that he graduated from the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland with a degree in Design Illustration.
A passionate baseball fan, Suntala is a longtime SABR member whose illustrations of ballparks have been prominently used in books about ballparks. Both an accomplished illustrator and watercolorist, Suntala originally used his expertise in computer design technology to sketch 3D ballpark models for his "ballpark evolution by city" poster series. In 2015 he started producing artistic renderings of individual ballparks and in 2016 he released a poster print that shows, in his words, "the classic ballparks of the Golden Age of baseball."
