First Pitch at Chase Field
A new era of baseball began in Phoenix on the evening of March 31, 1998. That was when both the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chase Field (then known as Bank One Ballpark) made their official debuts. The first pitch of the first game in the history of the franchise and ballpark was captured in this vivid panoramic print. Thrown by Andy Benes to Colorado's Mike Lansing, you can actually see the ball in mid-flight and the camera flashes going off in the stands, where 47,484 fans officially bore witness to the birth of the National League's newest franchise. They packed the bleachers, restaurants and swimming pool, everybody and everything preserved forever in this poster.
